All About Our Scholarship Fund
In our shop we believe that creativity, learning, and community should be accessible to as many people as possible! Our Scholarship Fund is one of the many ways we support that goal.
What is the Scholarship Fund?
Our Scholarship Fund is supported by both the shop and our community. It exists to help people attend classes and events who might not otherwise be able to.
The fund is made up of:
- Direct contributions from people in our community (both local and global!)
- Recurring fundraiser Happy Hour Craft Circles where all proceeds go into the fund
- Sales of select donated yarn (sold with the donor's permission), listed at a steep discount
If you ever choose to contribute, every dollar goes directly into the Scholarship Fund. The shop covers all fund management & processing fees!
How the Fund Works
Anyone can email us at hello@cleosyarnshop.com to request a full or partial scholarship ticket to most of our events. We typically only award scholarship tickets to classes, workshops, and make-alongs (aka events where attendees can learn things!). Please note that some events are ineligible for scholarship tickets, but most of those are often sliding scale. Events with neither scholarship tickets or sliding scale options are typically fundraisers!
When a scholarship ticket is awarded, that amount is removed from the fund and used for paying the host of the event, as well as our staff, with some also going towards regular shop bills like rent, utilities, insurance, all that boring, important stuff that keeps our doors open!
We believe it's imperative that accessibility and sustainability go hand in hand! That’s why the Scholarship Fund is a shared effort, supported by both our community and the shop. We take care of the behind-the-scenes management and contribute proceeds whenever we can, and the fund helps us continue paying our hosts & staff well, so we can keep offering classes and events to as many people as possible!
How to Request a Scholarship Ticket
- Read the description for the class or event you want to attend and make note if scholarship tickets are available
- Email us at hello@cleosyarnshop.com and include the following info:
- The event name
- The date(s) you want to come to (if applicable)
- How much you are able to pay for a ticket ($0 is an acceptable answer)
- No need to explain why you are requesting a scholarship ticket!
We will reply (usually within a week) and let you know if we have the funds and availability for the event you're requesting, then send you an email to pay (if applicable) and complete your sign up.
Who Is This For?
This fund is for anyone who feels they need it, no justification needed! We award scholarship tickets equally to everyone who requests one.
If you are considering requesting a Scholarship Fund ticket but aren't sure whether it's for you or not, it probably is! The folks who have contributed to the Scholarship Fund wanted to contribute and want the funds to be used! And the lovely people hosting our events are still getting paid the full amount to do it. Please only pay full price if you feel you have enough to do so.
That said, we also ask that you be mindful of the amount and frequency of requests you take from the fund. Making sure funds are available to as many people as possible is a collaborative effort, so we'll check in with you and you check in with us!
