Come learn how to crochet adorable toys & plushies in this beginner-friendly crochet workshop! Join us for a special Easter Sunday session where we'll show you the basics of amigurumi, the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed yarn creatures, by making crocheted Easter eggs.

You can also give other amigurumi projects a try, like the cute Totoro we have pictured. If you have a specific creature in mind that you'd like to create, just send us a photo or a pattern ahead of time so we can help you get started on it during the workshop. Some more involved projects might be best left for our upcoming 102 level workshop!

INSTRUCTOR
Cleo (they/she)

PATTERN
Easter egg pattern will be provided in the workshop.

The Totoro Amigurumi pattern can be found here!

SKILL LEVEL
Advanced Beginner. If you know everything listed in the Required Experience section below, you know enough to take this class!
You can read about how we determine skill levels here.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
You should be comfortable with the single crochet stitch before coming to this workshop. Knowing other techniques and stitches is helpful but not required.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

How to read a pattern, make a magic circle, alternative methods for a magic circle, work in the round to make a common Amigurumi shape, single crochet increasing and decreasing, how to attach safety eyes, and finishing techniques.

REQUIRED MATERIALS - available for purchase at the shop
For the easter eggs: small amounts of yarn in a weight you are comfortable learning with. We usually recommend learning new techniques with worsted weight (weight 4) yarn that is stretchy and light colored (acrylic & plant fiber yarns are not recommended).

For the Totoro: ~130 yards of blue DK weight (weight 3) or worsted (weight 4) yarn, and about 50 yards of white yarn in a matching yarn/weight, two safety eyes, some scrap black yarn for the mouth & nose. We used Hikoo Cobasi DK in Iris Blue and White.

The shop will be providing small amounts of polyfil stuffing to fill your amigurumi.

REQUIRED TOOLS - available for purchase at the shop
For worsted weight yarn: US F, G, or 7 / 3.75, 4, or 4.5 mm hook.

For DK weight yarn: US C, D, or E / 3, 3.25, or 3.5 mm hook.

Hooks are available for purchase at the shop for $5–10 if you need one.
