This weekly workshop is going to run for six weeks, which is just enough time to complete a whole sweater, even your first one! The workshop will guide you through every step of making a top-down raglan sweater step-by-step.

All students attending the workshop should choose a top-down raglan sweater pattern that uses dk, worsted, aran, or bulky weight yarn. Keep in mind that thicker yarns take less time to crochet! We have several great recommendations listed below.

Note that for the workshop there will be crocheting homework between some of the classes.

Drop-in sessions are available for anyone who wants to just come to a few of the workshop sessions to get help with specific techniques. Refer to the lesson plan below to see which dates will be going over which techniques.

SKILL LEVEL
Almost Advanced. If you know how to do all of the techniques listed below you know enough to take this class!
You can read about how we determine skill levels here.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
You must already be very comfortable with the chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and how to read your stitches to tell what you've done or where you are in a project. Having some experience reading simple patterns is helpful but not required.

PATTERNS
listed in order of difficulty, starting with the easiest/quickest

Pattern Yarn Weight  Notes

Caveat Crop by Lydia Morrow
Aran
This is UK pattern and thus uses British pattern terminology which differs from US terms slightly. (i.e. US single crochet = UK Double crochet) This pattern is worked with a faux ribbing on the neckline and cuffs that will only be visible from the right side of the work. The pattern has instructions for optional color blocking if you like to mix it up and get a lil funky with it.

Sigfrid Sweater by Justyna Srock
Worsted This pattern has both a free web version and an ad-free version that can be purchased on the website or through Ravelry. It is worked without ribbing and features a wide sleeve design, which can be very classy if that look catches your fancy.
Top Down Crochet Pullover by Cleo Malone  DK

Designed by our titular owner, THE Cleo of CLEO's. This pattern is also made without ribbing and is as cozy as it looks. Can be made with or without the color changes, whatever style you feel called to. We only recommend choosing this pattern if you're already comfortable working with smaller yarn and have lots of time to complete your homework between sessions!

MATERIALS - available for purchase at the shop
The weight and amount of yarn needed will vary with your chosen pattern. We will be discussing picking a size and the correct yarn to buy on the first day of class! You can also come ahead of time to get help picking out the right yarn and amount for your sweater.

TOOLS - available for purchase at the shop
All students should bring 4–6 locking stitch markers. Hook sizes will vary with your chosen pattern. If you have crochet hooks you think will work, please bring them to the first session. We also have crochet hooks for sale in the shop.

Scholarship Fund

Our Scholarship Fund is contributed to by the shop and our community to help those who need it attend our classes and events. You can read about why we started the fund here.

When signing up for a class or event, anyone is welcome to sign up for a Scholarship Fund ticket at a discount as funds allow. When a Scholarship Fund ticket is purchased, the amount discounted is taken from the Scholarship Fund to pay the shop and it's staff the regular ticket price.

If you are considering requesting a Scholarship Fund ticket but aren't sure whether it's for you or not, it probably is! The folks who have contributed to the Scholarship Fund wanted to contribute and want the funds to be used! And the lovely people putting on this class or event are still getting paid the full amount to do it. Please only pay full price if you feel you have enough to do so.

That said, we also ask that you be mindful of the amount and frequency of requests you make from the fund. Making sure funds are available to as many people as possible is a collaborative effort, so we'll check in with you and you check in with us!

If you'd like to use the Scholarship Fund, you can do so by calling the shop (929-529-7542), emailing us (hello@cleosyarnshop.com), or coming into the shop and requesting a Scholarship Ticket. We will ask you how much you are able to pay (zero is an acceptable answer!) and the funds available will cover the rest.
