Checkerboard Tissue Box Cover Knitting Pattern: A Great Beginner to Colorwork Stash Buster Project!

Add some color to your home or work desk with these checkerboard tissue box covers! This is a great project to use up leftover bits of worsted weight yarn. It's also a great low-stakes project for trying colorwork (knitting with two colors at the same time) for the first time.

These covers are worked from the bottom up in the round, then decreased at the top at each corner.

SKILL LEVEL
Almost Advanced. Don't be intimidated by this! If you are confident with all the techniques listed below, you'll have no trouble making this pattern.

TECHNIQUES USED
casting on, working in the round, knitting, stranded colorwork with two colors, knit two together (k2tog), slip, slip, knit (ssk), working in the round on small circumferences, binding off, weaving in ends.

YARN
100 yards total of aran or worsted weight yarn, 50 yards of each color.

The red & pink Sample Shown used Nine of Swords The Star.

The green & white sample shown used Germantown Worsted and Amano Riti.

The green & mint sample used Amano Turay and Loopy Mango Dream.

GAUGE
5 sts & 5 rows per inch in checkerboard colorwork pattern when worked in the round, after blocking over a tissue box.

NEEDLES
In size that will achieve correct gauge (US 8 / 5 mm is average):

• 16" circular needles
• preferred needles for working in the round on small circumferences

MEASUREMENTS
Fits standard square 5" x 4.5" x 4.5" tissue box.
