Crochet a Bucket Hat
Crochet a Bucket Hat
We teach this lesson plan at our recurring Intermediate & Advanced Crochet Class. Sign up for your first session here to get started on this project!
As soon as I saw this pattern I knew I had to make one, and I knew I wanted to teach a workshop on it too! This pattern is the perfect next level project to learn after learning the basics of crochet.
In this two session class you'll learn to increase, work in the round, read a pattern, read a colorwork chart, and use tapestry crochet to create colorwork patterns! For those who are interested in learning how to adjust patterns, we'll also go over how to alter the hat's size, colorwork chart, and brim.
There will be some homework between the two class sessions.

SKILL LEVEL
Intermediate
As long as you know everything listed in the required experience section below, you know enough to take this class!
You can read about how we determine skill levels here.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
To take this class you must already be comfortable with the chain stitch and single crochet. That's it! Knowing how to crochet other stitches, add a new ball of yarn, weave in your ends, or other crochet techniques are all helpful to know but not required.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
How to read a pattern, work in the round, increasing, how to read a colorwork chart, and tapestry crochet/colorwork techniques.
REQUIRED TOOLS - available for purchase at the shop
US 7 or H / 4.5–5 mm crochet hook. Hooks are available for purchase at the shop for $5–7 if you don't already have one of the required sizes.
REQUIRED MATERIALS - available for purchase at the shop
about 200 yards total of worsted weight yarn (cotton works best for this project!). You'll need about 150 yards for the main color and 75 yards for the flower color. We used Blue Sky Organic Cotton.
