Students each stitch their own way in this class! After learning the basics (like in our Learn to Knit class), you can take this class as many times as you need to learn all sorts of advanced beginner and intermediate techniques! The instructor will help you with whatever project you're working on. We have lots of recommendations for next-step projects that will help you learn new techniques while making something you'll love.

PROJECT
After learning the basics of knitting, you can go in a variety of directions to learn whatever you want! We have several great next step projects we can recommend for you in the shop, including but not limited to:
- a scarf or cowl (there are several different stitch patterns you could try)
- a hat (again, there are a few different styles you could do)
- a shawl (rectangular or triangular!)
- a triangle scarf/bandana, or the ever popular Sophie Scarf
- a collar, like this new pattern by Cleo!
- even a simple top or sweater!
You can come with a specific project or pattern picked out, or the instructor can help you choose one during class.
SKILL LEVEL
Advanced Beginner or Intermediate. As long as you have knitted before somewhat recently, you're ready for this class. We can also go over anything you don't quite remember too well if you need a refresher.
You can read about how we determine skill levels here.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
You should feel somewhat confident in the knit stitch before coming to this class. That's it! It also helps if you know how to cast on, but it's not a requirement. If you've taken our Learn to Knit class already, this should be your next step.
If you want a whole class refresher on casting on and knitting, we recommend you sign up for our beginning knitting class first.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
This mostly depends on what you want to learn! Most students will, depending on the project they decide to make in class, learn at least a couple of the following techniques: joining a new ball of yarn, purling, binding off, weaving in ends, seaming, combining knit & purl stitches to create patterns, working in the round, understanding gauge, reading a pattern, simple decreasing, or simple increasing.
Each student in class will be working on their own project at their own pace with help from the instructor. The amount of one-on-one time with the instructor will vary from class to class as they tend to each student based on each of their experience and needs. Typically, each student will get a demo at each point that they need one, and then practice their stitches while the instructor is helping other students, but sometimes there will be some short waiting periods.
REQUIRED YARN - available for purchase at the shop
This will depend on the project you pick out at the beginning of class! We usually help students pick out the right yarn for their desired project at the start of class. The type and amount will vary based on the project. If you have yarn you want to use in class, bring it in and we can help you pick a project that will work with what you've brought!
REQUIRED TOOLS - available for purchase at the shop
You guessed it, the required tools will also depend on your project! But don't worry, we have everything you need at the shop.
If you think you might have the right tools for what you want to make, bring what you've got and we'll let you know if they'll work, or if we recommend you get a different size or type. We recommend using wooden needles when you’re learning, the metal ones can be heavy (if they’re vintage) and too slippery, and plastic ones can be too sticky.
It can be tricky to figure out everything you need, but that's what we're here for! Don't hesitate to ask for any help, we love it :)
Class Policies
Wait Lists
If a class is full we are happy to add you to the wait list in case someone cancels. Send an email with the name of the class (and the date, if there is more than one date for the class) to hello@cleosyarnshop.com to be added.
Cancellations
We are happy to offer you a refund or store credit for any class sign up as long as you give us notice at least 48 hours before the start time of the class.
We cannot offer refunds or store credit for any late cancellations. However, if the situation was out of your control and you want to come to another class instead, we can sign you up for a future class using our Scholarship Fund which is available to everyone!
Many of our classes have a minimum number of sign ups required to run. If a class doesn't get the required number of sign ups to run and we decide to cancel or post-pone the class we will notify those who did sign up via email between 24–48 hours before the class's start time and offer them a seat in the next class, a refund, or store credit.
Photography
When you attend a class at our shop you agree to be recorded and photographed during the class. If you would like to request that your face, hands, or body not be in any photos or videos that we share on social media please send an email requesting so any time prior to the start time of the class to hello@cleosyarnshop.com. You may still be recorded or photographed during the class but we will respect your request that the videos or images of you not be shared online.
Scholarship Fund
Our Scholarship Fund is contributed to by the shop and our community to help those who need it attend our classes and events. You can read about why we started the fund here.
When signing up for a class or event, anyone is welcome to sign up for a Scholarship Fund ticket at a discount as funds allow. When a Scholarship Fund ticket is purchased, the amount discounted is taken from the Scholarship Fund to pay the shop and it's staff the regular ticket price.
If you are considering requesting a Scholarship Fund ticket but aren't sure whether it's for you or not, it probably is! The folks who have contributed to the Scholarship Fund wanted to contribute and want the funds to be used! And the lovely people putting on this class or event are still getting paid the full amount to do it. Please only pay full price if you feel you have enough to do so.
That said, we also ask that you be mindful of the amount and frequency of requests you make from the fund. Making sure funds are available to as many people as possible is a collaborative effort, so we'll check in with you and you check in with us!
If you'd like to use the Scholarship Fund, you can do so by calling the shop (929-529-7542), emailing us (hello@cleosyarnshop.com), or coming into the shop and requesting a Scholarship Ticket. We will ask you how much you are able to pay (zero is an acceptable answer!) and the funds available will cover the rest.
