Crocheting can seem like a daunting new hobby, and our goal is to make it as easy and accessible as possible! Plan to arrive about 30 minutes early and we'll explain everything you need to know, and help you pick out materials!

THIS CLASS IS FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS! If you already know how to make a chain and single or double crochet, please sign up for our 102 class!

If you are an absolute beginner, you are welcome to sign up without reading the following information. For those who like to have all the info, we got you, read on to learn all about what you'll need for and learn in this class!

In this class you have the option of making a chunky cozy scarf, a cowl, or a little purse!

We'll start my learning how to make a chain, then single crochet for the rest of class. Midway through we will demonstrate how to add a new ball of yarn, fasten off, and weave in ends. Most students do not finish their project in class. Crocheting is a slow but also extremely rewarding and meditative process!

We have many different yarns that are great for beginners. Come a bit early to class to get our advice on which ones are easy to use and how much you’ll need for your project!

Cleo Made Crocheting So Easy

Super beginner friendly class at a lovely little yarn store. I’m almost done with my first project and will be back soon to learn new skills.

Thanks Cleo x

Excited to finish my bag!

Meredith was a very patient instructor, and modeled everything multiple times so that we could learn. She also, however, rotated from group to group and gave each person the support they needed for where they were at. I would definitely take another class at Cleo's, especially with Meredith!

Scholarship Fund

Our Scholarship Fund is contributed to by the shop and our community to help those who need it attend our classes and events. You can read about why we started the fund here.

When signing up for a class or event, anyone is welcome to sign up for a Scholarship Fund ticket at a discount as funds allow. When a Scholarship Fund ticket is purchased, the amount discounted is taken from the Scholarship Fund to pay the shop and it's staff the regular ticket price.

If you are considering requesting a Scholarship Fund ticket but aren't sure whether it's for you or not, it probably is! The folks who have contributed to the Scholarship Fund wanted to contribute and want the funds to be used! And the lovely people putting on this class or event are still getting paid the full amount to do it. Please only pay full price if you feel you have enough to do so.

That said, we also ask that you be mindful of the amount and frequency of requests you make from the fund. Making sure funds are available to as many people as possible is a collaborative effort, so we'll check in with you and you check in with us!

If you'd like to use the Scholarship Fund, you can do so by calling the shop (929-529-7542), emailing us (hello@cleosyarnshop.com), or coming into the shop and requesting a Scholarship Ticket. We will ask you how much you are able to pay (zero is an acceptable answer!) and the funds available will cover the rest.
