Beginner’s Open Studio is an open-ended workshop for knitters and crocheters who are learning the basics of either craft!
You can come to learn specific techniques, get help with a project you've already started, or start a new project! We have lots of beginner friendly patterns to choose from in the shop and can help you pick one out based on your skill level.

This workshop is not project specific. You can bring a pattern or project idea if you want, or nothing at all and we can help you get started on something fun!
SKILL LEVEL
This workshop is for anyone at the following skill levels:
Absolute Beginner (Crocheting) - read about crochet skill levels here
Absolute Beginner (Knitting) - read about knitting skill levels here
Advanced Beginner (Knitting)
Intermediate (Knitting)
If you are looking to learn a specific technique, we teach the following in this workshop:
Knitting techniques: long tail cast on, knit, purl, knitting ribs & seed stitch, binding off, seaming, adding a new ball of yarn/changing colors, weaving in ends, basic decreasing (knit two together), reading patterns, joining to work in the round, picking up stitches, understanding gauge.
Crocheting techniques: chain stitch, single crochet, adding a new ball of yarn/changing colors, seaming, weaving in ends.
If you are looking to learn Intermediate/Advanced knitting techniques, or Advanced Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced crochet techniques, you can sign up for Advanced Open Studio instead!
REQUIRED MATERIALS - available for purchase at the shop
Required materials will vary based on your project. If you are looking to start a project we have lots of recommendations in the shop. You are also welcome to bring projects you have already started, or other materials from home.
Sliding Scale: This class is offered on a sliding scale. Determining monetary value under capitalism while being anti-capitalist is complicated! You can refer to the chart below that offers suggestions for each income bracket, but please pay whatever amount feels right to you. We want as many people to have access to the knowledge we're sharing as possible!

Class Policies
Cancellations
We are happy to offer you a refund or store credit for any class sign up as long as you give us notice at least 48 hours before the start time of the class.
Many of our classes have a minimum number of sign ups required to run. If a class doesn't get the required number of sign ups to run and we decide to cancel or post-pone the class we will notify those who did sign up via email between 24–48 hours before the class's start time and offer them a seat in the next class, a refund, or store credit.
Wait Lists
If a class is full we are happy to add you to the wait list in case someone cancels. Send an email with the name of the class (and the date, if there is more than one date for the class) to hello@cleosyarnshop.com to be added.
Photography
When you attend a class at our shop you agree to be recorded and photographed during the class. If you would like to request that your face, hands, or body not be in any photos or videos that we share on social media please send an email requesting so any time prior to the start time of the class to hello@cleosyarnshop.com. You may still be recorded or photographed during the class but we will respect your request that the videos or images of you not be shared online.
