Important note about this class!!!

This class is taught by different instructors depending on the session. Not all instructors can teach all the techniques listed here. Please refer to the project suggestions section below to make sure the technique you want to learn can be taught in the session you are signing up for.

Now, if you've made it this far, you're officially a knitting fiend! Are you ready to get into the knitty gritty? (Yes, pun very intended.) Our Intermediate & Advanced Knitting class is where to go when you're ready to:

  • try out that cool stitch you've had your eye on (cables, colorwork, or brioche maybe?)
  • learn a new technique to add to your toolkit (provisional cast ons & three-needle bind offs can come quite in handy)
  • master fixing mistakes (projects might not need to be totally frogged every time!)
  • get help with a work in progress that you're having trouble with

See below for a list of suggested projects or techniques to learn, or let us know in the notes section at checkout what you are interested in learning.

Each student in this class gets to choose which project/technique they want to work on in class. You can come to this class as many times as you want and the instructor will help you wherever you are at in your project.

This is a group class where students may all be working on completely different projects, so there will be times the instructor is helping other students while you are practicing a new technique without direct oversight. If you are interested in a private lesson with more one-on-one attention, you can sign up for that here!

PROJECT SUGGESTIONS
If the thing you are looking to learn isn't listed here, shoot us an email at hello@cleosyarnshop.com to make sure we can show you how! It's pretty likely we will, or in the small chance we can't, we'll at least have some alternative techniques we can show you instead.

Each suggested project below varies in complexity & size. Some projects require learning new techniques at different points in the project, so we will recommend signing up for this class more than once to learn all necessary techniques.

These projects link to their own class descriptions or pattern links that give you more details into the project. We can also give you more info when you come in for class.

A simple triangle scarf or shawl: learn to make an any-size triangle using increases in just one class!

A simple cabled scarf or vest: an easy introduction to cables. Students can typically learn 2–3 types of cables in one class.

A colorwork hat: learn how to knit in the round with two colors at once to make stranded colorwork patterns! Students typically take 1–2 classes to learn & perfect colorwork techniques.

A brioche hat, scarf, or sweater: Only Cleo can teach this technique! Learn this satisfyingly squishy, double-sided stitch! Students typically take one class to learn the basic brioche stitch, and one additional class to learn brioche increasing or decreasing. Learning to make the brioche sweater can take as many as 8 classes to learn all necessary techniques.

A simple top-down raglan sweater: a perfect first garment project! Students typically take 4–5 classes to learn all necessary techniques.

A customizable, fitted sweater: Only Cleo can teach this technique! Learn the Cocoknits Sweater Method and make top-down sweaters fit you perfectly! Students typically take 4–5 sessions to learn all necessary techniques.

A simple pair of socks: you can learn to make socks one at a time, or two at a time! Students typically take 3–6 classes to learn all necessary techniques.

Fingerless gloves: learn to work in the round on small circumferences, plus a few other helpful techniques (putting stitches on hold, picking up stitches, and make one increasing). Students typically take 3–4 classes to learn all necessary techniques.

Dog sweater: learn to make the cutest sweaters for the cutest dogs! Choose the pattern we linked to or any other dog sweater pattern. Typically students learn all necessary techniques in 3–6 sessions.

Darning & mending: Only Paulina can teach this technique! Learn to patch holes in your socks, sweaters, or pretty much anything! Students can learn one simple mending technique in a single class.

Embellishing knitwear: Only Cleo can teach this technique! Learn to adorn hand-knit fabric with appliqués! Students typically learn a few styles in just one class.

Learn to fix mistakes: once you master a few key techniques, you'll be able to fix nearly any mistake in your knitting! Students typically learn several techniques in just one class.

Learn how to block: Bring a small piece and we'll show you a few blocking techniques that will help your finished projects have that clean, finished look! Students can learn a few techniques in one class.

SKILL LEVEL
Intermediate, Almost Advanced, and Advanced. If you know most of the techniques listed in the Required Experience section below, you know enough to take this class.
You can read about how we determine skill levels here.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Each specific project will have different skills required to know before starting. Generally, you should already know how to do the following before coming to this class: cast on, knit, purl, use both knit & purl to make stitch patterns like stockinette/ribs/seed stitch, bind off, seam, weave in ends, work simple increases/decreases, and work in the round on circular needles.

We can always advise you on the best project to choose for your skill level at the beginning of class!

REQUIRED MATERIALS
Each individual project will require different types and amounts of yarn, notions, and needles. If you want help picking out materials for class, please arrive 15–20 minutes early and we will help you get everything you need!

If a class is full we are happy to add you to the wait list in case someone cancels. Send an email with the name of the class (and the date, if there is more than one date for the class) to hello@cleosyarnshop.com to be added.

Cancellations

We are happy to offer you a refund or store credit for any class sign up as long as you give us notice at least 48 hours before the start time of the class.

We cannot offer refunds or store credit for any late cancellations. However, if the situation was out of your control and you want to come to another class instead, we can sign you up for a future class using our Scholarship Fund which is available to everyone!

Many of our classes have a minimum number of sign ups required to run. If a class doesn't get the required number of sign ups to run and we decide to cancel or post-pone the class we will notify those who did sign up via email between 24–48 hours before the class's start time and offer them a seat in the next class, a refund, or store credit.

Photography

When you attend a class at our shop you agree to be recorded and photographed during the class. If you would like to request that your face, hands, or body not be in any photos or videos that we share on social media please send an email requesting so any time prior to the start time of the class to hello@cleosyarnshop.com. You may still be recorded or photographed during the class but we will respect your request that the videos or images of you not be shared online.

Scholarship Fund

Our Scholarship Fund is contributed to by the shop and our community to help those who need it attend our classes and events. You can read about why we started the fund here.

When signing up for a class or event, anyone is welcome to sign up for a Scholarship Fund ticket at a discount as funds allow. When a Scholarship Fund ticket is purchased, the amount discounted is taken from the Scholarship Fund to pay the shop and it's staff the regular ticket price.

If you are considering requesting a Scholarship Fund ticket but aren't sure whether it's for you or not, it probably is! The folks who have contributed to the Scholarship Fund wanted to contribute and want the funds to be used! And the lovely people putting on this class or event are still getting paid the full amount to do it. Please only pay full price if you feel you have enough to do so.

That said, we also ask that you be mindful of the amount and frequency of requests you make from the fund. Making sure funds are available to as many people as possible is a collaborative effort, so we'll check in with you and you check in with us!

If you'd like to use the Scholarship Fund, you can do so by calling the shop (929-529-7542), emailing us (hello@cleosyarnshop.com), or coming into the shop and requesting a Scholarship Ticket. We will ask you how much you are able to pay (zero is an acceptable answer!) and the funds available will cover the rest.
